Christmas Decorating with Speech

Tis the season! by now we have all gotten our trees up or are at least thinking about it! Here are some ways to target speech goals while decorating… trees, cookies, anything really!

Spatial concepts: Talk about our prepositions including over, under, beside, between, behind.

Following directions: Give some instructions to follow. They can be 1 step, 2 step, or even more depending on your child’s ability level. Throw in some spatial concepts or words like ‘before’ and ‘after’ to make things really challenging.

Describing: Have your kids think of 2 or more words to describe a decoration. You can even play a game with the whole family where one person describes an ornament and the rest of the family has to guess which one it is!

Vocabulary: There is so much vocabulary that comes only in December. Let’s talk about gingerbread, mistletoe, ornaments, stockings and so much more! Use them in a sentence or make up a direction that involves our newly learned words!
